2006 Annual Exhibit Entry Form (pdf) (txt)
2006 GNSI Annual Members Exhibition
Venue:
The exhibition will be displayed at The Ebling Library located in the Health Science Learning Center (HSLC) at the University of Wisconsin Madison. The building is a major thoroughfare for students, teaching staff and administrators. It is also a place for medical students to study and relax. The exhibit will remain on display until early fall for all to appreciate. The HSLC is a beautiful building completed in 2004 that uses state-of-the-art technology. The interior of the building holds a 4-story glass atrium, onto which people on each floor may look through glass windows. Artwork will be visible from many locations throughout the building.
The Ebling Library has a premier collection of the history of anatomical illustration, ranging from the 15th century to the present, along with surgical artifacts. They will be displaying items from their collection in their historical reading room during the exhibit. (There will also be opportunities to view the collection with a curator during the conference.) The Ebling will allow sales of the displayed artwork and will not charge any commission on said sales.
Please submit your ORIGINAL art including digitally created or modified art to be displayed at The Ebling Library. Take note that high quality slides and files are essential: submissions will be projected on a very large screen for the jurors.
Promotion:
The exhibit will be promoted in many ways throughout the campus and southwestern
Wisconsin including:
- an article about the exhibition and GNSI in the Wisconsin Academy Review, produced by the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.
- a feature article on Portal Wisconsin, an on-line guide to the arts in Wisconsin.
- through campus calendars, department bulletin boards, the Ebling web page, and local daily and weekly newspapers.
In-kind exhibits of natural history will also be on display in the Memorial (Humanities, History of Science, History of the Book) and Steenbock (Agriculture, Animal Science, Life Science) Libraries on campus. This will truly be a campus-wide event.
Criteria for entries to be juried:

All media must be labeled with artist’s name, phone number, and title of the work. For slides, include a red dot in the bottom left corner (with the image seen correctly). All submissions must be of good quality and accurately represent the original art.

Framing:
All two dimensional artwork must be matted in a simple frame with double hanging wire and ready to hang. Any color of mat is acceptable. There are no size limits for the framed artwork. Glazing with acrylic is required. For friable media such as carbon dust or pastel, use a double mat and perhaps spacers between glazing and mat. Spacers must be attached to the back of the frame to protect frame and wall. Jurors and the Ebling Library curators reserve the right to reject improperly framed artwork. For three-dimensional work, such as sculpture and bas-reliefs, the Ebling Library has locked, climate controlled display cases.
Shipping and Insurance:
Please ship your artwork in sturdy boxes and packaging that ensure safe delivery and return. Simple protection can be made with plastic foam style pipe insulation from a home building supply store. The foam comes slit and can be cut to size and slipped onto the frame. Attach a copy of the entry form to the back of your work.
Artists are responsible for insurance and shipping to and from the exhibit. Please include a prepaid return shipping label with the artwork. Neither the Ebling Library nor the Guild is responsible for damage during delivery or temporary storage of artwork. The Ebling Library will insure the art during the exhibit.
Accepted artwork must be delivered between June 12 and 22, 2006 to the Ebling Library. It will be stored in their secure, climate controlled vault until it is hung for the show. The library has a rail hanging system with security latches that attach to the hanging wire. The library is only accessible from one detector protected entrance.
Damage:
Any damage that is sustained in shipping can be repaired in Madison at the artist’s expense. Information about labeling, artist’s statements, and shipping address will be sent after selection for the exhibit has been made.
