About three years ago I started using a microscope and found a fascinating world. Getting an 'up close and personal' view through the lens resulted in a major change in my art making. I came to this from a Fine Arts background where the mark was more important than the subject. I am now fascinated by how the marks I make can accurately represent and express the beauty of the natural world on a two dimensional surface. Here, I have used water color and polypropolene 'paper' to represent this piece of Lichen Usnea strigosa (x20) that chickadees use to line their nests. Painting on this toothless surface feels a bit like skating in ice.
