Purpose: Create a new illustration depicting the lifecycle of Drosophila melanogaster for publication. The illustration was the cover for a special issue describing new discoveries in Drosophila development. There are very few illustrations showing the stages of development for Drosophila, so this illustration was meant to provide a new treatment of an under-illustrated topic. Published in Science Magazine 9/27/2002.

Research: Visits were made to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History entomological special collection to perform microscopy drawing, and video research.

Scientific Name: Drosophila melanogaster
