Fine Arts Exhibit
SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED to APRIL 8th!
Where and when: Blake Library, UMFK; month of July 2009
This year we are pleased to announce a new opportunity for members to show their work. In addition to the traditional Scientific Illustration exhibit, we have added a Fine Arts Exhibit. With this new exhibit, we hope to showcase a broader range of work that our members create in addition to their scientific illustration.
Eyes on Fine Arts
The Eyes on Fine Arts Exhibition will include art and illustration inspired by, but not limited to, the natural world, but may also include works such as still lifes, landscapes, portraits, or even an abstract work. In this exhibit, any natural science subject is acceptable. Many of our members create innovative non-scientific work, which we generally do not get a chance to see. The Eyes On Fine Arts Exhibition will provide a venue for sharing a little more of ourselves.
Criteria for Eyes On Fine Arts Exhibit:
Any traditional or digital illustration may be entered.
- Work should be presented at the size at which it was created.
- Framing and matting should be conservative. Mats should be neutral colors: white, black, warm/cool gray.
- If work is a reproduction (such as a digital print), use a paper close in appearance to the original substrate (i.e., don't use a high gloss paper if the original was done on a matte surface).
Submission Guidelines: SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED to APRIL 8th!
Because of lateness in Newsletter delivery, the deadline for submission is extended from March 25th to April 8th. You may submit images and forms by e-mail (email@example.com) or mail them postmarked by Apr. 8th.
Digital files are now the preferred format. They can be e-mailed or mailed on a CD-ROM. They should be saved as a high resolution (1024 x 768 pixel min. - 2048 x 1536 pixel prefered) .jpg format (quality 85/100 or higher) or .tif. 2" x 2" 35mm slides may also be submitted.
All media must include artist's name, phone number, and title of the work. For slides, include a red dot in the bottom left corner (as image is seen correctly). Each submission should include a copy of the entry form. Entry forms may be photocopied. All submissions must be of good quality and accurately represent the original art.
Please make sure that the digital files or slides meet the following criteria:
- In sharp focus
- Very evenly lit
- Properly exposed, and, for digital art, of good color temperature
- Art square on all 4 sides
- Clean and neat
Submissions not meeting these requirements may be excluded from adjudication. Please note that as space may be limited, acceptance may be limited to one entry per artist. All entries must be postmarked no later than April 8th, 2009. Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you wish your submissions to be returned.
Send entries to:
Illinois Natural History Survey
1816 S. Oak Street
Champaign, IL 61820
You will receive notice of the jury's decision by May 14th, 2009. Upon acceptance, please send your original artowrk or a high quality print to arrive in the month of June. The art will be on display for the Month of July.
You will need to move quickly to prepare your image once notified. You will have only 6 weeks to frame, ship and deliver your art.
You must make sure your packaging can be used again and include a prepaid return shipping label if you want your artwork back (we're assuming you do!). Send to:
