Auction Submission Form
The auction is a place to find cool stuff, both cheap and not-so-cheap. The auction is a place to pass on stuff to others and/or introduce them to some local fun culture. The auction is a fun way to support GNSI and its Education Fund.
What should you donate? Just about anything. Silly, sublime or serious — we have almost never turned anything away. The only rules are 1) no body parts 2) nothing illegal. So use your creativity, clean your closets, showcase a local craft. Just keep in mind, a number of people are traveling by air and we can’t refrigerate stuff in the dorms.
The Silent Auction comes first. You scurry around among items laid out on tables, choosing by putting your name and your bid on that item’s bid sheet. People find local arts and personal crafts, silly gags, obscure art supplies, excellent T-shirts, useful illustration resources, beautiful specimens to draw, silly stuff for their kids and whatever else you can come up with. (Near the end you have to circle back and protect your bids from your adversary friends.)
The Live Auction follows the Silent Auction. You get to participate while sitting down. Our Guild auctioneers will have mystically divined which of the donated items should be sold live. So cash in your drink ticket, have a seat and be prepared to raise your hand
If you still can’t figure out what to donate, remember — these people are as weird as you are: they share your interest in natural history and drawing/painting. They may find a use for an illustration supply that didn’t work out for you. Lots have kids of all ages who may want a local souvenir. Also, they like to have a little fun now and then.. (Anybody donating any shakers or percussion eggs?)
We have an auction donation form which you can download from the conference website if you are mailing items to the auction (or just like to get things done ahead of time). We will have actual paper copies at the registration desk, where you can turn in items you bring with you. The form asks you to list the item and estimate its worth. You can also suggest a minimum bid.
Just do it! Questions? Email me: crichardson-AT-fieldmuseum-DOT-org
Bring your auction goodies with you to the conference.
