Raleigh offers a wide variety of transportation choices. You can come by plane, train or automobile. In fact, more than half of the United States population lives within a day's drive or an hour's flight. Located centrally on the East Coast, Raleigh is halfway between Florida and New York City.
Travel By Air
Raleigh-Durham
International Airport (RDU) is an East Coast hub which ranks as one
of the nation's fastest-growing airports. This airport serves Raleigh and
the rest of the Triangle area of North Carolina.
RDU is located at the western edge of Wake County, near Cary, Morrisville
and Research Triangle Park and midway between the cities of Raleigh and
Durham. RDU International Airport's address is 1600 Terminal Blvd. If driving
to RDU, exit I-40 at Exit 284B. For more information, call (919) 840-2100.
The Raleigh-Durham airport offers 450 daily departures on 10 major airlines
and 18 regional carriers offering service from RDU to more
than 40 destinations.
Ground Transit from Airport
Bus:
The Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) Airport Shuttle Service connects the airport to regional bus routes by way of the TTA Bus Center in Research Triangle Park.
Taxi:
RDU
Airport Taxi Service provides service to and from RDU. To schedule a
taxi, please call (919) 840-7277. Reservations and on-demand service are
available. Handicap vans are available. The Authority recommends making
a reservation prior to your arrival.
The Terminal 1 taxi dispatch booth is located on the curb near Southwest
Airlines. The Terminal 2 dispatch booth is located on the curb on the terminal’s
lower level.
Typical one-way fares with estimated mileage to Raleigh (14 miles)=$29.80
SuperShuttle:
SuperShuttle offers shared-ride van service from RDU to destinations throughout the Triangle region. The company accepts reservations through their Web site as well as at one of the three SuperShuttle counters at RDU. Passengers should check in at one of the three SuperShuttle counters in the terminals after claiming their luggage. Afterwards, passengers will meet their van at the Prearranged Service zone SuperShuttle outside each terminal. The company operates from before the first flight each morning until after the last flight has arrived. Vans run no longer than 25 minutes apart and routes are crafted based upon where the riders live.

Travel by Auto
I-40, which connects the East and West Coasts of the United
States, passes through Raleigh and serves as one of the area's main thoroughfares.
The area's first-rate system of state highways and the I-440 Beltline provide
easy access to the city, surrounding communities and world-renowned Research
Triangle Park. I-95 and I-85 run within 25 miles of the city.

McKimmon Center Parking:
Visitor/guest parking is designated by distinctive green striping. Visitors are asked to park in the green-lined designated visitor parking spaces in order to avoid ticketing. There are three smaller parking lots on each side of the Center with white stripes that are reserved for University employees.

Travel by Bus
Within the area, the CAT (Capital Area Transit) bus system and CAT Connectors provide riders with an extensive network of routes, while the Raleigh Trolley serves the downtown area from 11:30 am - 2 pm Monday through Friday and provides rides for monthly historic tours on Saturday. The Triangle area of Greater Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary is served by the Triangle Transit Authority bus service.
