Nancy_Halliday_Eng_watercolor.jpg

English Watercolor 8:30AM – 12:30PM

Location: Coastal Georgia Center West Room 1220B
WS02-Half Day AM – 12 People MAX

Nancy Halliday
Level: General
Prerequisites: none

Transparent watercolor has long been considered a challenging medium in that erasing is difficult, allowing little propensity for error. The so-called "English" watercolor technique provides a means for maximum control, thus minimizing the possibility of ineradicable mistakes. By using two brushes (one for water, one for color) and applying pigment in layers, one can control the flow and intensity of the medium in gradual steps, adjusting each layer as necessary.
As this is only a halt-day session, those participating should bring a prepared drawing already on watercolor paper and a color representation of the subject. For those unable to do so, the instructor will provide a drawing to be copied.

Price: $50

Adobe Acrobat: Tools for Color Management and Archiving 1:30PM – 5:30PM

ACROBAT-haines001web.jpg
Location: SCAD Museum of Art Classroom 222
WS03-Half Day PM – 12 People MAX

Deb Haines
Level: Intermediate
Prerequisites: Use Acrobat for printing (Bring a working file, from either AI, InDesign, PSD  with sample printouts).
Maximum class enrollment: 12

You receive a proof from the printer and wonder why the colors on the printers output just doesn’t look like the colors from your monitor. Or your test prints look differently from both the original file and from the PDF. Before you @#$% and scream at the machine, let’s explore various problems from file setup to possible solutions. Can PDF help you diagnose the situation?  Most printers prefer PDF, but you’re wary of using one more software.  What should you do?

You’ve finally got the job out the door, everything is printed but you can’t keep storing all your files on the computer.  The boss says you need to save server space and archiving must meet company standards. What are the benefits of saving as PDF and when should you keep your working files?  What do those extra letters at the end of PDF mean? It’s like an alphabet soup! Decide when to use archiving and when to look at other storage solutions.

FRIDAY, July 13

FULL-DAY WORKSHOPS

marjorie_leggitt_depicting_3D_world.jpg

Perspective – Depicting a 3D World 8:30AM – 5:30PM

Location: SCAD Museum of Art Classroom 209
WS13-Full Day – 15 People MAX

Marjorie Leggitt
Level : General
Prerequisites: none

Perspective is a three dimensional illusion on a two dimensional surface. This class presents the techniques found in drafting and architecture to provide the student with an accurate foundation that tricks the eye into believing. Even the most experienced artists and illustrators sometimes struggle to create this illusion and simplify their subject matter or the visual angle to eliminate a difficult drawing challenge. Deciphering perspective isn’t nearly as hard as it seems. In this workshop, you will overcome your “fear” by learning how to “see” and “measure” perspective, then “construct” – first with lines, then with value – difficult 3D subjects. Simple tools and a step-by-step process will enable you to begin rendering the 3D world in a concise way.

Participants will work with botanical subjects. However, the techniques and skills learned in this workshop can be used with any subject matter.

The class fee covers the expense of flowers.

Materials List

Price: $105 (includes class fee)

frank_Ippolito_aftereffects.jpg

Jumping into 2D Animation with Adobe After Effects 8:30AM – 5:30PM

Location: SCAD Museum of Art Classroom 222
WS14-Full Day – 15 People MAX

Frank Ippolito
Level: beginner to intermediate
Prerequisites: Basic understanding of computers (MAC or PC) is required. Working knowledge of Photoshop helpful.

These days it is likely that the natural science illustrator will become involved in projects that also require animated support materials. Adobe AfterEffects is a 2D animation program that allows illustrators who are comfortable working within Photoshop to slide directly into animation via a familiar interface. Layered Photoshop and Illustrator files can be imported with their layers (and their settings!) intact and layers can be animated independently or together as a whole. In this hands-on workshop students will learn how to bring their artwork alive using AfterEffects and Photoshop. Each students will use their own Photoshop and/or Illustrator files—or experiment with supplied sample files—and will create one or more animations suitable for web or video viewing.

Special items to bring: Layered Photoshop file(s) the student wishes to animate. Note: each layer of PS files can be animated independently in AE.
Please bring your own flashdrives to save your work.

What will be provided: Sample files for those who chose not to bring own file(s).

Price: $100

Participants will then do this for themselves with constant guidance from the instructor.

Second Day: Using the graded background done the day before participants will remove the frisket from the object , which will then be executed in excruciating detail.

Please note: John will select a photograph that is optimally conducive to the teaching of his techniques, and each participant will be given a copy. All will work from the same photograph.
